| Reverse description | The reverse of this crescent-shaped hammered silver piece displays two lines of Devanagari inscription conforming to the curved form of the flan. The upper legend reads 'Shri Shri Shri Pashupati Nath', a triple invocation of Pashupatinath, the supreme Shaivite deity and divine protector of the Kingdom of Nepal, whose temple in Kathmandu held paramount religious significance for the Shah rulers. Below appears the Vikrama Samvat date '1881' in Devanagari numerals, establishing the year of issue. The engraving is executed in the bold, hand-struck style characteristic of the Kathmandu mint, with dot ornaments punctuating the field. |
