Obverse description Crowned and draped bust of James I facing right, wearing a plain mantle with ruff collar, the royal crown adorned with fleurs-de-lis and arches visible above. The denomination numeral XII appears to the left of the effigy in the field. The legend encircles the design within a beaded inner border, with a mint mark positioned at the commencement of the inscription. The portrait corresponds to the fifth bust type of the second coinage, distinguished by its mature, bearded effigy and relatively broad facial treatment.
