Reverse description A crowned lion sejant guardant, holding a sword erect in its right forepaw and a sceptre in its left, is centrally positioned atop a crown, representing the Scottish crest. The date is divided by the lion's body on either side, with heraldic shields flanking the central device. The legend FID:DEF IND:IMP arcs above, while the denomination ONE SHILLING appears below in the exergue. The design was engraved by George Kruger Gray and is framed by a beaded border.
