The issuer name BRITISH WEST AFRICA appears in the upper legend, and the date is divided on either side of the palm tree base, where a mint mark (H for Heaton, KN for Kings Norton, or none for Royal Mint) may appear beneath the trunk. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
