Reverse description A standing allegorical female figure, representing Hope, is depicted facing left in the central field, rendered in the neoclassical style by engraver George Kruger Gray. She rests her right hand on a large anchor, symbolising hope and maritime strength, while her left arm is extended and draped with flowing drapery; sheaves of wheat appear at her feet. A six-pointed star is visible in the upper right field. The bilingual legend SOUTH AFRICA · 1929 · ZUID-AFRIKA arcs around the upper periphery, while the denomination SHILLING is inscribed along the lower border, all within a beaded inner circle.
