A partial date beginning 174 is visible in the exergue or legend area, with the final digit lost to wear, consistent with a date in the 1740s. The overall execution is notably inferior to genuine Royal Mint coinage, with weak relief and irregular die work characteristic of contemporary forgeries. The silver plating over a copper flan is a telltale sign of this class of counterfeit. |
