| 背面描述 | A traditional Fijian outrigger sailing canoe (drua) depicted in full sail at center, with its large billowing lateen sail and rigging rendered in fine detail, designed by Percy Metcalfe. The date is divided on either side of the vessel, with 19 to the left and the final two digits to the right. The denomination SHILLING arcs across the upper field and the issuer name FIJI appears in the lower exergue, all within a beaded border. |

Fiji's shilling coinage in this period sat in an awkward administrative position — the islands were a British Crown Colony under the Colonial Office, yet monetary policy ran through the Board of Commissioners of Currency rather than directly through London. The 1st portrait by Mary Gillick, used here, was already being phased out on British domestic coinage by the early 1960s while Fiji continued striking it through 1965, the year before decimal planning began in earnest for the territory.
