| Reverse description | Central device depicts the Irish harp, surmounted by a royal Tudor crown with distinctive fleurs-de-lis and arched elements, all contained within a beaded inner circle. The harp, symbol of the Kingdom of Ireland, is rendered with fine diagonal string lines and a scrolled base, typical of the Elizabethan Irish series. The surrounding Latin legend POSVI.DEVM.ADVITOREM.MEV encircles the design, translating as 'I have made God my helper.' The flan edges are irregular and show the uneven character inherent to hammered coinage production. Variety is distinguished by the mint mark at the commencement of the reverse legend. |
