| Reverse description | The reverse displays the Royal Arms of England as a quartered shield, bearing the arms of England (three passant guardant lions) in the first and fourth quarters, Scotland (a lion rampant within a double tressure flory-counter-flory) in the second quarter, and Ireland (a harp) in the third quarter, with France (three fleurs-de-lis) represented within the English quarters per the heraldic convention of the period. The shield is surmounted by a decorative crown and flanked by scroll-like cartouche work. The peripheral Latin legend CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO encircles the design within a beaded border, with the mint mark at the commencement of the inscription. |
