Reverse description The quartered royal shield of arms occupies the centre of the reverse, divided by a long cross extending to the beaded inner circle. The shield displays the arms of England (three passant guardant lions) and France (fleurs-de-lis) in the first and fourth quarters, France and England counterchanged in the second, and the Irish harp in the third quarter. The shield is uncrowned and executed in the clean, precise style associated with Briot's milled coinage. A beaded inner circle surrounds the shield, with the Latin legend running around the outer periphery, beginning with a mintmark.
