Beschrijving voorzijde The colorized coat of arms of Zimbabwe occupies the central field, featuring two sable antelopes as supporters flanking a quartered shield bearing a Zimbabwe bird, green and white waves, and a pickaxe over a red ground, surmounted by a red star. The denomination numeral '1' appears in the upper field above the arms, with the legend 'SHILLING' arching above it along the upper rim. The inscription 'REPUBLIC OF ZIMBABWE' curves along the lower rim, while the motto 'UNITY · FREEDOM · WORK' is inscribed on the scroll beneath the shield. The date '2017' appears twice in the left and right fields flanking the arms.

Aanvullende informatie

Zimbabwe's 2017 novelty coinage program — which included submarines, battleships, and aircraft carriers alongside more conventional issues — was a product of the country's acute currency dysfunction following the formal demonetization of the Zimbabwe dollar in 2015. With no domestic currency of practical use, ZANU-PF authorized a series of collectible shilling denominations nominally tied to nothing, intended primarily for the international numismatic market rather than any domestic circulation. The USS Nimitz, the lead ship of her class and commissioned in 1975, had no particular connection to Zimbabwe — the name simply carried global recognition.
