Obverse description The obverse displays the crowned royal arms of Spain set within an ornate shield, surmounted by a large elaborate crown. The shield is encircled by a wreath-like cartouche. Superimposed at centre is the rectangular Jamaican countermark bearing a crowned 'GR' cypher (Georgius Rex) and the denomination '2R', applied by colonial authorities to validate the host coin for local circulation. The circumferential legend in Latin reads • FR • VI • D • G • HISP • ET • IND • R •, identifying the host coin as struck under Ferdinand VI, King of Spain and the Indies.
