| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse bears the legend REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA arching along the upper periphery, with the date 1969 positioned centrally below it. Beneath the date, a spread eagle with wings raised is depicted perched upon a horizontal bar or staff, serving as the national emblem. The denomination ONE SHILLING is rendered in two lines in bold raised lettering occupying the lower half of the field. Two small cross ornaments flank the eagle at the mid-field level, and the coin is bordered by a beaded inner rim. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Biafra's coinage was issued during the secession conflict with Nigeria (1967–1970), a war that killed an estimated one to three million people, the majority through famine. These aluminium pieces were struck in limited quantities and saw almost no meaningful circulation — the enclave was collapsing by the time they reached the public. The 1 Shilling is the highest denomination in the three-coin aluminium series, the others being ½ and 3 Pence.
Biafra formally surrendered in January 1970, rendering the entire coinage obsolete after roughly a year of nominal legal tender status.
