| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing portrait bust of President Hastings Kamuzu Banda, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair texture, the truncation of the bust overlapping a convex ribbon bearing the incuse country name MALAWI in bold raised letters arcing across the lower field. The engraver's initials P.V. appear discreetly at the left of the bust truncation. The portrait is the work of sculptor Paul Vincze and conveys a strong, naturalistic likeness in the academic medallic tradition. |
