| Beschrijving voorzijde | Typeset letterpress voucher on plain cream paper, with a small Royal Arms vignette at top centre flanked by the month and year date to the left and a serial number to the right. The body carries the authority inscription naming Colonel R.S.S. Baden-Powell and the denomination '1s.' in large green numerals, below which a redemption clause pledges exchange for coin at the Mafeking Branch of the Standard Bank upon resumption of Civil Law. A manuscript signature and the printer's imprint appear at the foot, with a perforated counterfoil stub along the left margin repeating the serial number vertically. |

Produced under siege conditions during the 217-day Boer investment of Mafeking, these notes were a local improvisation — Baden-Powell authorized their issue in early 1900 when coin supplies ran critically short and the garrison needed a functioning internal economy. The printer, identified in references only as "T. & Son," was operating under active bombardment.
Survival rates are low not because of wartime destruction but because so many were redeemed and treated as souvenirs immediately after the relief on 17 May 1900, leaving circulated examples scarcer than one might expect.
