The Salomas was introduced as a low-denomination commemorative token note tied to Lithuania's broader public engagement with its pre-euro currency identity — not a circulating banknote in any conventional sense. The hybrid substrate, combining paper and polymer layers, was a deliberate technical experiment by the Bank of Lithuania during a period when several central banks were evaluating substrate alternatives ahead of euro adoption, which Lithuania was actively preparing for at the time.
Issued in 2002, three years before Lithuania formally pegged the Litas to the euro at a fixed rate, this piece has essentially no circulation history.
