| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line Arabic religious legend in bold, fluid Naskh script, reading the Shahada and Shi'a declaration of faith: 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God.' The inscription is arranged in flowing, interlocking lines filling the flan, characteristic of early Safavid hammered coinage. A dotted inner border partially encircles the central legend, with the script extending nearly to the coin's irregular edge. The lettering is deeply struck and displays the characteristic calligraphic style of the Isma'il I period, asserting Twelver Shi'a doctrine as the state religion. |
