| Reverse description | Central field filled with the Shi'a Islamic profession of faith rendered in bold nasta'liq calligraphy across multiple registers: the Shahada declaring 'La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad rasul Allah, Ali wali Allah', affirming the uniqueness of God, the prophethood of Muhammad, and the guardianship of Ali, a hallmark of Safavid Twelver Shi'a confessional coinage. The legends are arranged in sweeping curved lines filling the entire flan. The design is contained within a beaded border consistent with hammered production techniques. The relief is high and characteristic of late Safavid minting practice. |
