| Obverse description | Central field dominated by bold Arabic calligraphy in nasta'liq script, divided horizontally by a ruled line into two registers. The upper register bears the name 'al-Rida' in prominent, highly stylised characters with floral dot ornaments above, while the lower register carries the invocatory legend 'Ya Ali ibn Musa al-Rida'.
