Obverse description Central field dominated by bold Arabic calligraphy in nasta'liq script, divided horizontally by a ruled line into two registers. The upper register bears the name 'al-Rida' in prominent, highly stylised characters with floral dot ornaments above, while the lower register carries the invocatory legend 'Ya Ali ibn Musa al-Rida'. The design is characteristic of Safavid-influenced Shi'a devotional coin types, with the inscription filling the flan to its irregular edges.
