| Obverse description | Central field bearing a multi-line Persian religious legend in flowing nasta'liq script, reading the name and epithet of Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (the eighth Imam of Twelver Shia Islam), a common invocation on Safavid-tradition coinage. The inscription is arranged in horizontal registers across the flan, with the text bordered by a peripheral legend continuing around the outer rim.
