| Obverse description | Central field dominated by bold Nasta'liq calligraphy arranged in a characteristic Safavid cartouche, reading the devotional legend attributing servitude to Shah Abbas. The inscription is rendered in deeply struck, flowing Arabic script radiating outward from the centre, with additional legend segments filling the surrounding field. The flan is irregular and slightly crude, typical of hammered Safavid provincial coinage. The overall strike is characteristic of the Herat mint during the reign of Shah Abbas I. |
