| Obverse description | Hammered silver flan bearing a Persian-script legend divided into quadrants by two intersecting lines, a typical Safavid cartouche format. The inscription reads 'بنده شاه ولایت عباس بغداد' (Banda-yi Shah-i Wilayat Abbas / Baghdad), identifying the ruler Shah Abbas I and the Baghdad mint. Pellet ornaments are visible between the textual elements, filling the quadrant fields. The script is rendered in a bold nasta'liq-influenced style characteristic of late sixteenth- and early seventeenth-century Safavid coinage. The flan is irregular in shape with a slightly uneven rim, consistent with hand-struck hammered production. |
