| Beschrijving keerzijde | Reverse features a cross pattée or cross with pellets at the terminals and in the angles, centrally placed within the field, a characteristic Venetian design motif for small billon denominations of the sesino type. The cross is surrounded by a circular Latin legend reading: + . SANCTUS MARCUS VENE ., invoking Saint Mark, patron saint of Venice. The treatment is typical of hammered coinage struck at the Venice Mint during the late sixteenth century, with a slightly uneven flan and modest relief. Pellet or annulet decorations appear within the quadrants of the cross, adding ornamental detail. The overall design is simple and functional, consistent with the coin's role as a low-value circulating denomination. |
