Ferdinando I of Bourbon-Parma issued this copper sesino under the Duchy of Piacenza in the same decade he was navigating the suppression of the Jesuits across his territories — a political crisis forced on him by both Madrid and Rome that consumed much of his early reign. The sesino was the smallest denomination in regular circulation, handling transactions that silver simply wasn't minted fine enough to reach.
The Bourbon-Parma duchy had only existed since 1748, carved out of Habsburg control by the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle as a concession to Spain.
