| 背面描述 | A centrally positioned depiction of Tu`i Malila, the Radiated Tortoise (Geochelone radiata), a specimen reputedly presented to the Tongan Royal Family by Captain James Cook circa 1777 and regarded as a royal treasure. The tortoise is shown in profile with its distinctive star-patterned carapace rendered in detail. The denomination legend 1 SENITI is inscribed below the central device, and the design is framed by a beaded border. |

Tonga's 1974 coinage series coincided with the country's deep ties to the British Commonwealth and its own carefully managed monetary system under the long reign of Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, who ruled from 1965 until his death in 2006. The National Reserve Bank had only been established in 1989, meaning this piece was issued under earlier monetary arrangements — the brass composition here distinguishes it from the bronze struck in earlier years of the same type.
