Obverse description Central field features a scalloped cartouche bearing the denomination inscribed vertically in two Japanese kanji characters (一 above 錢), surrounded by an elaborate decorative border of stylized rolling ocean waves rendered in high relief. At the apex of the design, the Imperial chrysanthemum seal — the sixteen-petalled mon of the Emperor — is prominently displayed, while at the base a paulownia crest (kiri mon) emerges from the wave pattern. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border running along the coin's periphery.
