Brunei's Currency Board was established in 1967 following the nation's decision not to join Malaysia, and the 1992 issue marks the 25th anniversary of that institution — not the sultanate itself. The Board's founding coincided with the introduction of the Brunei dollar, which has maintained a one-to-one peg with the Singapore dollar under a mutual interchangeability agreement in continuous force since that year.
