| Beschrijving voorzijde | Royal cypher of Christian IV consisting of a large crowned letter 'C' enclosing the numeral '4', all within a beaded inner circle surrounded by a continuous Latin legend citing the king's titles. The crowned monogram is the central design element, rendered in the style typical of hammered Danish coinage of the early seventeenth century. The legend reads around the periphery of the field. |

Christian IV's grip on Schleswig and Holstein was constitutionally distinct from his Danish kingship — he ruled the duchies as duke, not king, which is why coinage from this authority carries different titulature than his Danish issues. The 1640s were ruinous years for him: the disastrous Torstenson War with Sweden had begun in 1643, draining treasury resources and disrupting mint operations across his territories. A sechsling struck at fractional silver weight during these years was a workhorse denomination, likely produced in volume precisely because larger silver was being hoarded or melted under wartime pressure.
