Obverse description Central field bears the Hamburg castle arms — a three-towered white castle with open gates — rendered in fine relief against a plain field. The heraldic device occupies the upper portion of the flan, with the mintmaster's initials O.H.K. (Otto Heinrich Knorre, mintmaster 1761–1805) inscribed in Roman capitals below the arms. No surrounding legend is present; the design is notably spare and geometric in character.
