Obverse description Elaborate papal coat of arms displayed on an ornate baroque cartouche, divided per pale: the dexter half bearing a patriarchal cross with the word PAX beneath, and the sinister half charged with three hills (monti) and three stars above, representing the Chiaramonti family arms of Pope Pius VII. The shield is surmounted by the papal tiara with lappets flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter. Decorative foliate branches flank the escutcheon on either side. The pontifical legend runs along the outer border.
