| Obverse description | Full-length figure of Saint Andrew standing facing, draped in flowing robes, holding a large diagonal cross (crux decussata) in his left hand and a pyx or reliquary vessel in his right hand, set upon a low platform or step. The figure is rendered in a bold, if somewhat crude, emergency-issue style consistent with the exigencies of the 1630 siege. A circular beaded border frames the design, with the Latin legend disposed around the periphery, partially interrupted by the central figure. The abbreviated inscription MAN OBSES appears in a cartouche or panel at the base of the field, explicitly identifying this as a siege obsidional issue of Mantua. |
