1 Scudo - Michele Antonio Saluzzo

Michele Antonio ruled Saluzzo as a French client, and the marquisate's coinage during his reign reflects that dependency directly — the gold scudo issued under him follows the French écu au soleil standard adopted after Charles VIII's Italian campaigns of the 1490s. Saluzzo sat on the piedmontese frontier and changed hands repeatedly between French and Savoyard pressure throughout the sixteenth century, making continuous minting anything but guaranteed.

Fr#160 is among the rarer entries in Friedberg's Italian section for this period. The marquisate itself was annexed by Savoy in 1601 following the Treaty of Lyon, ending its coinage tradition entirely.
