| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a large crowned heraldic shield bearing the manifold quartered arms of Mantua and Montferrat, surmounted by a marquis's crown with elaborate foliate mantling. The shield displays multiple quarterings incorporating the Gonzaga and Paleologa dynastic devices in high relief, characteristic of the hammered gold coinage of the Italian Renaissance. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield, separated from it by a plain inner border, with the ruler titles distributed around the full circumference of the coin. |
