| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Ludovico, Duke of Orléans, depicted as a youthful figure wearing a cap adorned with a fleur-de-lis finial, with short bobbed hair falling to the collar. The effigy is rendered in late-Gothic style typical of north Italian hammered gold coinage of the late fifteenth century. A beaded inner circle frames the portrait. The Latin legend LVDOVICVS DVX AVRELIANESI runs around the periphery between the beaded and outer borders, identifying the issuer by name and title. |
