Reverse description Central device comprising a large heraldic shield bearing the winged lion of Saint Mark in high relief, displayed frontally within an ornate Baroque cartouche with scrolled and foliate surround surmounted by a small cross. The value numeral 140 appears in the lower field on either side of the shield base, denoting the denomination in soldi. The surrounding legend SANCTVS·MARCVS·VENET is separated from the central device by a beaded inner border, with a further beaded rim at the outer edge. The composition exemplifies the formal iconographic tradition of Venetian coinage invoking the Republic's patron saint.
