| Beschrijving keerzijde | Saint George on horseback, rearing to the right, thrusting a lance downward at a dragon prostrate beneath the horse's hooves. The mounted saint is depicted in full armor in vigorous Baroque movement, with a billowing cloak and the dragon writhing below. The date 1640 appears in the exergue in large numerals. The surrounding legend SPES·NON CONFVNDIT· is interrupted by small floral or star ornaments, all within a beaded inner border. The composition conveys dynamic energy characteristic of Italian Baroque medallic engraving. |

Tassarolo was among the smallest of the Imperial fiefs scattered across the Ligurian Apennines, a territory so minor that its coin-issuing authority depended entirely on the Spinola family's standing with the Habsburg emperor. The scudi struck under Filippo Spinola in this brief window were almost certainly produced in small quantities as sovereign assertions rather than practical currency — the fief's population and economic activity could not have sustained meaningful circulation.
The MIR reference places this among a handful of types from Tassarolo that survive in very limited numbers today, most traced to old Italian cabinet collections rather than circulation finds.
