| 背面描述 | A crowned shield bearing the cross of the Order of Malta, quartered with diamond lozenges, displayed upon the breast of a spread eagle with wings extended. The crown divides the date 17-76 in the upper field, while the denomination indicators S and I appear in the lower field flanking the eagle's talons. The heraldic composition is boldly executed with fine crosshatching, typical of Maltese silver coinage of the late eighteenth century. |

Emmanuel de Rohan-Pölâtre was elected Grand Master in 1775 and proved one of the more administratively capable rulers the Order had seen in decades, overhauling the legal code and expanding the naval hospital at Valletta. His monetary issues are distinguished from those of his predecessor Ximenes by subtle die differences catalogued under the KM#305.1 and 305.2 split — the .2 variety identifiable by a repositioned element in the master die rather than any gross design change.
The Order lost Malta to Napoleon in 1798, just over two decades after this coin entered circulation.
