| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field bears the papal coat of arms of Sixtus V, displaying a rampant lion on an oval shield, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, the whole suspended within a decorative cartouche with elaborate scrollwork. The shield is flanked by the papal insignia rendered in fine relief typical of late Renaissance hammered coinage. A circular Latin legend runs along the outer border, separated by small ornamental stops, reading SIXTVS V PON MAX. The overall design reflects the accomplished die-cutting style of the Rome Mint in the late sixteenth century. |
