Reverse description A fimbriated and floriated cross occupies the centre of the field, its arms terminating in fleur-de-lis ornaments and dividing the space into four quarters. The upper two quarters bear the arms of the papal legate Monsignor Girolamo Melchiorri, while the lower two quarters display the arms of the city of Bologna. The circumferential legend BONONIA DOCET, separated by rosette stops, encircles the design within a beaded border, referencing the famous motto of the University of Bologna.
