| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the crowned oval shield of Savoy, displaying the characteristic cross of the House of Savoy, flanked by the date 15-56 divided across the field. The ornate crown surmounting the shield features elaborate scrollwork and foliate decoration rendered in a bold Renaissance hammered style. The circumferential legend, reading E. PHILIBERTVS. DVX. SABAVDI. F E R T, runs clockwise within a beaded inner border, invoking the duke's title and the dynastic motto FERT. The overall composition is characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Savoyard gold coinage, with the shield occupying the full central area of the flan. |
