| Reverse description | Central design features an ornate floriated cross pattée, its arms terminating in elaborate foliate scrollwork, with a crowned fleur-de-lis surmounting the upper arm and decorative acanthus-leaf motifs adorning the remaining arms. A small rosette appears at the centre of the cross. The composition is set within a plain inner circle, surrounded by the circular Latin legend SALVS ET VICTORIA NOSTRA (Our Salvation and Victory), the words separated by pellets. The overall design reflects the refined Italian Renaissance hammered gold coinage tradition of the early sixteenth century. |
