Obverse description Central field displays the elaborate papal coat of arms of Clement XI, consisting of a baroque cartouche bearing a six-pointed star in chief above two towers, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield is flanked by ornate acanthus scrollwork. The circular Latin legend is divided around the arms reading CLEM. XI. P.M. A. XI, indicating his pontifical title and regnal year.
