| Beschrijving voorzijde | Double-headed eagle displayed in the central field, wings spread, facing outward to both sides, rendered in the medieval heraldic tradition characteristic of Italian Renaissance coinage. The eagle occupies the majority of the coin's face within a beaded inner border. Surrounding the device, a circular legend in Roman capitals reads: SVB VMBRA ALARVM TVARVM, a devotional Latin motto meaning 'Under the shadow of Thy wings.' The lettering is separated by a small cross at the commencement of the legend. The overall style is consistent with hammered gold coinage of the minor Italian lordships of the early seventeenth century. |
