| Obverse description | A plain pattée cross occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding annular legend reads in Latin capital letters, separated by a decorative cross stop at the commencement. The inscription invokes the name and title of Conrad, King of the Romans, a traditional authority cited by the Republic of Genoa on its coinage. The overall design is characteristic of the medieval hammered gold scudo tradition, with bold, slightly irregular lettering typical of hand-struck dies. |
