Obverse description Central field occupied by a displayed eagle with spread wings, rendered in the late medieval heraldic style characteristic of Italian Renaissance coinage. The eagle faces forward with wings extended and tail feathers visible, occupying the majority of the flan. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery reading MONETA AVRE B FER CAR IPPO S B A, referencing Bonifacio Ferrero, Cardinal and Abbot. The strike is irregular, consistent with hammered gold coinage of the period.
