Huguenin Médailleurs of Le Locle operated as one of Switzerland's premier private medal manufacturers, producing struck pieces for cantons, municipalities, and commemorative purposes throughout the twentieth century. This scudo-denominated silver piece for Lugano falls into a category sometimes called "Nichtamtlich" — unofficial local issues with no legal tender status, produced for civic or tourist purposes rather than monetary circulation. The distinction matters for collectors because such pieces exist outside the normal Swiss federal minting authority entirely.
The X# prefix in the Krause reference system confirms its non-circulation, exonumia classification.
