Aanvullende informatie

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta issues its own coinage not as circulating currency but as a assertion of sovereignty — the Order holds observer status at the United Nations and maintains diplomatic relations with over a hundred states despite controlling no territory beyond its Roman headquarters. The 1973 scudo falls under the magistracy of Angelo de Mojana di Cologna, who served as 77th Grand Master from 1962 until his death in 1988, the longest tenure in the modern Order's history.

The .986 fineness is notably purer than most contemporary silver issues from national mints.
