Additional information

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta occupies a peculiar legal position — a sovereign entity without territory, issuing coinage with no domestic circulation possible. These pieces were struck for collector markets and diplomatic purposes, not commerce. De Mojana di Cologna served as 77th Grand Master from 1962 until his death in 1988, overseeing a significant expansion of the Order's humanitarian activities during the Cold War period.

.986 fine silver is an unusually high purity for a mid-20th century issue, deliberately chosen to distinguish SMOM coinage from conventional national mintages.
