| Obverse description | Papal arms displayed on an ornate shield surmounted by the crossed keys of Saint Peter and the papal tiara, the whole suspended from an elaborate mantle with tasselled cords. The legend ALEXANDER VII P M runs along the outer border, partially visible on the right side of the coin. The shield bears the Chigi family arms, finely detailed in the hammered gold field. |
