背面描述 Two crossed keys, the heraldic symbol of the Archbishopric of Riga, occupy the central field within a beaded inner circle, with the date numerals flanking the keys on either side. The keys are depicted in the traditional ecclesiastical manner, crossed saltire-wise. A circular Latin legend surrounding the inner circle identifies the coin as a new issue of Riga, reading along the full outer border between the beaded circle and the coin's rim.

附加信息

Wilhelm von Brandenburg served as Archbishop of Riga from 1539 until the Livonian Order's catastrophic collapse under Russian military pressure forced a fundamental reorganization of the entire region. By 1561, the Livonian Confederation had effectively ceased to exist — Livonia was being carved up between Lithuania, Sweden, and Denmark — and Wilhelm's ecclesiastical authority was dissolving along with it. These schillings were struck in the final months before the Archbishopric itself was secularized, making them among the last coins issued under Wilhelm's name before his authority was extinguished entirely by the incorporation of Riga into the Polish-Lithuanian sphere.
